Side Effects of This Medicine
Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur:
- Bloody mucus or unexplained nosebleeds; cough; headache; nausea ; shortness of breath; vomiting
- Diarrhea; dizziness; excessive mucus; fever; general aches and pains; loss of appetite; stomach pain; weakness; runny nose
- White patches inside nose or throat

Before Using This Medicine
Older adults¡XAlthough there is no specific information comparing use of nasal corticosteroids in the elderly with use in other age groups, these medicines are not expected to cause different side eff
cts or problems in older people than they do in younger adults.

Drug Interactions
The risk of developing Cushing's syndrome and other side effects increases when you take other steroid medications while using flonase. Prednisone and dexamethasone are examples of oral steroid medica
tions. Certain other asthma inhalers, skin creams, eyedrops, and eardrops also may contain steroids.
Also be sure to check with your doctor before combining flonase with ketoconazole (Nizora
l) or HIV drugs known as protease inhibitors, including Agenerase, Crixivan, Fortovase, Norvir, and Viracept.

What is this Drug
Nasal Flonase are cortisone-like medicines. They belong to the family of medicines called steroids. These medicines are sprayed or inhaled into the nose to help relieve the stuffy nose, irritation, a
nd discomfort of hay fever, other allergies, and other nasal problems. These medicines are also used to prevent nasal polyps from growing back after they have been removed by surgery.

What special precautions should I follow?
Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems, especially:
- Glaucoma¡XRare cases of glaucoma have been reported following use of nasal corticosteroids, including nasal Fl
nase
- Herpes simplex (virus) infection of the eye or
- Infections (viral, bacterial, parasitic, or fungal)¡XNasal corticosteroids may cover up the signs of these infections
- Injury to
the nose (recent) or
- Nose surgery (recent) or
- Sores in the nose¡XNasal corticosteroids may prevent proper healing of these conditions
- Tuberculosis (active or history of)¡XNasal co
icosteroids may cover up the signs of this infection or cause it to start up again

Special warnings about this medication
In rare cases, inhaled steroids such as Flovent have caused cataracts or increased pressure in the eye (glaucoma). Alert your doctor if you suffer from either problem.
If you have recently h
ad a nasal injury or ulcer, or had surgery on your nose, you should wait until you are fully healed before using Flonase.
