What is this Drug
Nasonex belongs to the family of medicines known as corticosteroids (cortisone-like medicines). Corticosteroids belong to the family of medicines called steroids. Nasonex is sprayed into the nose to h
elp relieve the stuffy nose, irritation, and discomfort of hay fever and other allergies.
In Canada, Nasonex can also be used along with certain antibiotics to treat sinusitis

Precautions Before Using This Medicine
Pregnancy¡XIn one human study, use of beclomethasone oral inhalation by pregnant women did not cause birth defects or other problems. Other studies on birth defects with beclomethasone, budesonide, de
amethasone, flunisolide, Nasonex, mometasone or triamcinolone have not been done in humans.
In animal studies, Nasonex taken by mouth or injection during pregnancy were shown to cause birth defects
. Also, too much use of Nasonex during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester, may cause other unwanted effects in the infant, such as slower growth and reduced adrenal gland function.

Proper Use of This Medicine
This medicine usually comes with patient directions. Read them carefully before using the medicine.
Before using this medicine, clear the nasal passages by blowing your nose. Then, with the n
osepiece inserted into the nostril, aim the spray towards the inner corner of the eye.
In order for this medicine to help you, it must be used regularly as ordered by your doctor. This medici
ne usually begins to work in about 2 days, but up to 2 weeks may pass before you feel its full effects.

Symptoms of overdose
A single overdose of Nasonex is unlikely to cause any harm. However, habitual overuse of the product can cause symptoms of steroid overload, including menstrual irregularities, acne, obesity, and musc
le weakness. Check with your doctor immediately if you develop such symptoms.

What side effects may occur?
More common side effects may include:
Coughing, flu-like symptoms, headache, muscle and bone pain, nosebleed, painful menstruation, respiratory tract infection, sinus inflammation, sore throat, v
iral infection
Less common side effects may include:
Asthma, bronchitis, chest pain, diarrhea, earache, eye inflammation, flu-like symptoms, indigestion, joint pain, muscle aches, nausea
, pinkeye, runny nose, vomiting, wheezing
Rare side effects may include:
Allergic reactions, nasal ulcers, swollen mouth and throat, yeast infection in the nose or mouth

Other Medicines
Tell your health care professional if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription (over-the-counter [OTC]) medicines, such as:
- Ephedrine or
- Phenobarbital or
- Rifampin (e
.g., Rifadin)¡XEphedrine, phenobarbital, and rifampin may decrease the blood levels of nasal Nasonex, such as dexamethasone, warranting an increase in corticosteroid dose
