What special precautions should I follow?
Before taking Soma,
- tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to Soma, meprobamate (Equanil, Meprospan, Miltown, Neuramate), or any other drugs.
- tell your doctor and pharma
cist what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, especially medications for allergies, coughs, or colds; muscle relaxants; sedatives; sleeping pills; tranquilizers; and vitamins.
- tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking Soma, call your doctor.

you drowsy.
- remember that alcohol can add to the drowsiness caused by this drug.

Why is this medication prescribed?
Soma, a muscle relaxant, is used with rest, physical therapy, and other measures to relax muscles and relieve pain and discomfort caused by strains, sprains, and
other muscle injuries.

What special precautions should I follow?
The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of a skeletal muscle relaxant. Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems, especially:
- Allergies, history of
, or
- Blood disease caused by an allergy or reaction to any other medicine, history of, or
- Drug abuse or dependence, or history of, or
- Kidney disease or
- Liver disease or
- Porphyria¡XDepending on which of the Soma you take, the chance of side effects may be increased; your doctor can choose a muscle relaxant that is less likely to cause problems
- Epilepsy¡XCon
lsions may be more likely to occur if methocarbamol is given by injection

Drug Interactions
When you are taking a skeletal muscle relaxant, it is especially important that your health care professional know if you are taking any of the following:
Alcohol or

Symptoms of overdose
A severe overdose of Soma can be fatal. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical help immediately.
Symptoms of Soma overdose may include:
- Breathing difficulty, coma, shock, stupor

What side effects can this medication cause?
Although side effects from Soma are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
- drowsiness
- dizziness
- clumsiness

headache
- fast heart rate
- upset stomach
- vomiting
- skin rash
If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:

- fever
- weakness
- burning in the eyes
