Special warnings about this medication
If you think you or someone else may have taken an overdose of this medicine, get emergency help at once. Taking an overdose of Sonata or taking alcohol or other CNS depressants with Sonata may lead t
o breathing problems and unconsciousness. Some signs of an overdose are clumsiness or unsteadiness, confusion, severe drowsiness, low blood pressure, unusual dullness or feeling sluggish, and troubled
breathing.

Allergies¡XTell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to Sonata. Also tell your health care professional if you are allergic to any other substances, such as foods, preserv
tives, or dyes.

What side effects can this medication cause?
Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur:
- Anxiety; blurred or double vision; not feeling like oneself
- Nosebleed; seeing, hearing
, smelling, or feeling things that are not there

Proper Use of This Medicine
Do not take Sonata unless you plan to be in bed for at least four hours after taking it. If you need to be alert and active in less than four hours, your performance could be impaired. Never attempt t
o drive a car or operate other dangerous machinery right after taking Sonata.
Use Sonata only for temporary relief of insomnia; sleep medicines tend to lose their effect when taken for more
than a few weeks. Remember, too, that taking sleeping pills for extended periods or in high doses can lead to physical dependence and the danger of a withdrawal reaction when the drug is abruptly stop
ped. Be especially wary if you've ever had addiction problems with alcohol or other drugs.

What Is It
Sonata is prescribed for people who have trouble falling asleep at bedtime. Because it has a short duration of action, it doesn't help those who suffer from frequent awakenings during the night or tho
se who wake too early in the morning. It is intended only for short-term use (7 to 10 days).
