Before Using This Medicine
Before taking Tenuate, - tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to Tenuate; amphetamines; other diet pills; medications for allergies, hay fever, and colds; or any other drugs. <
br> - tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, especially guanethidine, insulin, and MAO inhibitors [phenelzine (Nardil) or tranylcypromine (Pa
rnate)] even if you stopped taking them in the last 2 weeks, herbal products, and vitamins. - tell your doctor if you have or have ever had heart or blood vessel disease, high blood pressure, an
overactive thyroid gland, diabetes, glaucoma, pulmonary hypertension, seizures, or a history of drug abuse.

Overdosage
Abdominal or stomach cramps; coma; confusion; convulsions (seizures); diarrhea (severe); dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting; fast breathing; feeling of panic; fever; hallucinations (seei
ng, hearing or feeling things that are not there); high or low blood pressure; hostility with urge to attack; irregular heartbeat; nausea or vomiting (severe); overactive reflexes; restlessness;
trembling or shaking; tiredness, weakness, and mental depression following effects of excitement

How should this medicine be used?
Take this medication exactly as prescribed. Tenuate may be habit-forming and can be addicting. If you are taking Tenuate Dospan (the controlled release formulation), do not crush or chew the
tablets. Swallow the medication whole.

What Is It
Tenuate decreases appetite. It is used on a short-term basis (a few weeks), in combination with diet, to help you lose weight. This medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your
doctor or pharmacist for more information.

Possible food and drug interactions
It is especially important that your health care professional know if you are taking any of the following: - Amantadine (e.g., Symmetrel) or - Amphetamines or - Caffeine (e.g., NoDoz) o
r - Chlophedianol (e.g., Ulone) or - Cocaine or - Medicine for asthma or other breathing problems or - Medicine for colds, sinus problems, or hay fever or other allergies or -
Methylphenidate (e.g., Ritalin) or - Nabilone (e.g., Cesamet) or - Pemoline (e.g., Cylert) - Appetite suppressants (diet pills), other or - There have been some serious unwanted ef
fects on the hearts of people who used two different appetite suppressants together - Monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor activity
